Wear Red for Ed This Friday

Good afternoon Sisters and Brothers of the Plainedge Federation of Teachers,

March is here and hopefully spring weather won't be far behind.  It's hard to believe that March 12, 2021 marks essentially the one-year anniversary of all public schools being shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While life changed and we were faced with some adversity, we also learned a lot about ourselves and our community. Teachers became mask-wearers and masters of remote instruction. We learned countless new computer programs to help us connect with and educate our students. At the same time, students had to adjust to a new form of schooling, one in which they rarely, if ever, got to be with their classmates. They also had to acclimate to attending schools without traditional events, such as the proms, pep-rally, homecoming games, sports night, music concerts, and more. Although it has certainly been difficult for all involved, our Plainedge community stepped up in the face of a global pandemic and did what it does best - take care of our students' education and well-being. While we may have hit some bumps along the way, we will continue to get through these tough times together and work to keep our students' education and everyone's safety a priority. In acknowledgement of one year from when COVID-19 closed our schools, please join us and districts around Long Island in wearing red on March 12 for RED FOR ED DAY to show the strength and unity within our Plainedge school community.  We will continue to get through this together!

We are asking that EVERYONE wear RED on Friday, March 12. If you are in need of a red PFT T-shirt, please let your building rep know ASAP. We still have some dry-fit PFT shirts available for purchase ($20 dollars cash or check made out to VBI scholarship fund). All proceeds from the sale of our shirts go to support our union's VBI college scholarship fund. Please make sure to take plenty of pictures with your colleagues this coming Friday and share them with our PFT Social Media Chairs so that they can be posted on our union's FB, IG, and Twitter accounts.

PFT Social Media Chairs:

Thank you very much for your anticipated participation in celebrating all that we have accomplished over the last year. Our union's educators are truly inspirational, and we deserve the utmost regard and respect for all that we do to support children. You always have mine! In solidarity

Teachers across Long Island are Wearing Red for Ed on March 12th to show that while we may need to be apart they are united together. Click here to see some of the videos that teachers have recorded to encourage their co-workers to Wear Red.
