A Message from President Perry Fuchs

Dear Sisters and Brothers of the PFT,

As we gather with family and friends tomorrow to celebrate Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude for each and every PFT member’s dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to our students and our union.

Thanksgiving is a reminder of the importance and power of community, and few communities embody that spirit more strongly than the PFT! As union sisters and brothers, we are part of something larger than ourselves: a collective voice that stands up for fairness, dignity, and respect in our schools. Our ability to advocate for better pay, increased benefits, safer working conditions, reasonable teaching workloads, and the resources our students deserve is only possible because we stand together.

We are lucky to be part of such a strong union, which is not the case for way too many teachers around this country. Our nation is a place where a disproportionate amount of educators face challenges alone. They are left without a voice in the workplace, without a support system, and without the backing of a union which makes them vulnerable to attacks and unable to advocate for what’s needed to be a successful educator. In Plainedge, although we might have our individual differences, the PFT remains a source of strength, support, and shared purpose. I am profoundly thankful, not only for what our union accomplishes, but for the willingness of our members to engage, speak up, and support one another. Every meeting attended, every conversation held, every action taken helps shape a better future for our profession, both here in Plainedge and around the country.

This Thanksgiving, I am grateful for the trust you place in our union, for the solidarity you show each other, and for the belief that by working collectively, we can create an education system in this country that will ensure our democracy remains vibrant for decades to come.

On behalf of the entire PFT leadership team, I wish all of our members and their families a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

In solidarity and gratitude,
Perry
