Public Education is under attack.  The new administration has appointed an anti-Public Education nominee to run the Education Department.  Betsy DeVos doesn't even have a history of working in the classroom or in the administration of a school.  Instead, she has used her personal wealth to push a pro-charter school, pro-voucher agenda that has destroyed schools throughout Michigan.  DeVos has also pushed to destroy teachers unions and take away their right to bargain.  This is why teachers from across Long Island are holding a rally on Thursday, January 19th in Bay Shore to oppose her nomination.  Staging starts at 2:30 but since we all get out at different times, the rally doesn't start until 3, with speakers beginning at 3:30 and this will go on until 4:15 PM. The Long Island Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO is putting their efforts behind this as well, they are sending support of our cause from the Building Trades and other private sector unions but we need to stand up for ourselves. Teacher attendance is vital. We encourage all members of the Plainedge Federation of Teachers to attend this important rally and show our elected officials and the community that we will not tolerate any further attacks on our profession.
